I don’t usually do a lot of cropping in post-processing, but I wanted to show my audience just how powerful technology has come…
No pixelation, no weird artifacts happening. No quality loss. Just the perfect amount of sharpness and overall less distracting image (Sorry, crew).
The best part? You now have 3 images that are great composition and have different uses.
Each crop creates a completely different composition, giving you more options for output.
Most social media platforms require different sizes compared to editorial or a publication needs. Most social media platforms, facebook, tiktok, and instagram thrive off a 4×5 or 9×16 vertical crop, where most publications like the submission of original horizontal images.
When submitting images for editorial use, you generally don’t want to crop in to the subject too tightly. At the same time, you don’t want them getting lost in the image either. Leaving a little extra space gives editors flexibility for headlines, text, or page layouts.
It is worth noting, there are different resolution sizes for a printed publication compared to what you would use on social media or websites. Social media you can get away with 72dpi, where you need to export in 300dpi for any printed output. It is always helpful knowing just where these images are going to live. I will output 1 generally for both; one high resolution version watermark-free for my website, and one low resolution version watermarked for my website blog.
